The Natural Approach To Avoiding H1N1!
by Michelle A. Viesselman

As an herbalist and natural practitioner I have watched with great interest all of the various arguments pro and
con on utilizing the H1N1 vaccine, as well as, the great variety of articles and discussions among herbalists and other natural practitioners.Everyone in today’s world knows the arguments for
being vaccinated…they are much the same with every seasonal influenza, though the some of the demographics
have changed. There has been much speculation as to why seemingly healthy people die from influenza.

One of the more sensible medical observations involve a CytokineStorm, a virulent immune response, which results in a extreme inflammatory response that results in a rapid buildup of fluid in the lungs (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) which leads toorgan failure and death. For this reason, most well informed herbalists recommend utilizing both immune enhancing herbs such as Black
Elderberry, Echinacea, and a variety of immune enhancing herbal formulas in conjunction with anti-inflammatory herbs such as Turmeric, Ginger, Basil, Licorice (not for those with hypertension), and a variety of other anti-inflammatory herbal compounds. (By the way though not in the same category as the herbs, due to its synthetic manufacturing processes, Aspirin is still one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory drugs available over the counter.)

While I would never presume to tell anyone else, which choices to make, for myself, I will follow the same process that has kept me influenza free for more than 15 years: Frequent hand washing, Avoiding large crowds whenever possible, plenty of rest, plenty of water, a diet high in antioxidant foods and low in sugar, as well as, utilizing immune boostiing and anti-inflammatory herbs as a preventative measure.
